Installation of 20 Sites in 17 Cities and Provinces During National Mourning Period
68 Autonomous-Operated Si/Gun/Gu Sites Planned
Joint memorial altars to honor the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster will be operated at 88 locations nationwide.
According to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 30th, 17 provincial and metropolitan governments across the country will set up and operate joint memorial altars at a total of 20 locations, including local government offices and plazas. In addition, 66 city and county districts that autonomously operate joint memorial altars plan to establish and operate a total of 68 joint memorial altars.
In Jeonnam, the region where the accident occurred, memorial altars will be set up at three locations: in front of Gate 2 on the first floor of Muan International Airport, Muan Sports Park Indoor Gymnasium, and the Meeting Plaza at Jeonnam Provincial Office. In Jeonbuk, a memorial altar will be operated on the first floor of the performance hall at Jeonbuk Provincial Office, and in Gwangju, at the May 18 Democratic Plaza.
Additionally, memorial altars will be installed in front of the main entrance of Seoul City Hall, Aeteul Plaza at Incheon City Hall, Citizen Hall at Ulsan City Hall, An Byeong-geun Olympic Memorial Judo Hall in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, the west exterior of the main building of Sejong City Hall, and the main conference room of the Jeju Provincial Council.
The operation period for most memorial altars is until January 4 of next year, the national mourning period. In Jeonnam, Sejong, and Gwangju regions, the altars will be operated without a set end date.
