Dongdaemun-gu, Birth Celebration Supplies Increased from 50,000 to 200,000 Won

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 30th that it will significantly increase the birth celebration gift support fund from the current 50,000 KRW to 200,000 KRW starting in 2025 to actively address the low birthrate issue.

The birth celebration gifts consist of diapers, wet wipes, and educational play sets. The district plans to provide 200,000 KRW, the highest level among Seoul's autonomous districts, to celebrate the birth of children and alleviate the initial economic burden on families with newborns.

In addition, the district is striving for practical changes through various efforts such as strengthening birth promotion projects, discovering new projects, and expanding the budget for low birthrate response initiatives.

In particular, through the community childcare sharing centers, caregivers are supported to share childcare information and activate a community care culture. Various welfare benefits such as childcare allowances, parental benefits, and child allowances help reduce the economic burden on families raising children.

Also, through the newly launched ‘Dongdaemun-gu Family Ambassador’ project this year, active promotion and support activities are being carried out with the goal of creating a family-friendly environment that respects diverse family types and values.

The district has allocated a budget for awareness improvement education to promote work-life balance and plans to improve the ‘Emergency Accompaniment Volunteer Operation for Infants and Toddlers’ project to further address childcare gaps.

Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “We are making various efforts to create an environment that is good for having and raising children,” and added, “Next year, we will take the lead in solving the low birthrate problem through practical support measures that residents can feel.”
