Damyang County, South Jeolla Province (Governor Lee Byeongno), announced on the 30th that it has been selected as an excellent institution in the "2024 Outdoor Advertising Work Evaluation" by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and has received a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety evaluates local governments nationwide on the maintenance of illegal advertisements, the establishment of a proper advertising culture, the maintenance and management of political banners, cooperation and promotion for the prevention and maintenance of illegal advertisements, and the recycling of banners, to select outstanding institutions.
Damyang County received high marks for its intensive management of illegal advertisements, signboard maintenance, maintenance and management of political banners, expansion of public posting facilities, and the recycling project for discarded banners.
In particular, Damyang County has contributed to the spread of a proper outdoor advertising culture by consistently operating advertising guidelines tailored to regional characteristics, designating ordinances and pilot zones for advertisement maintenance, and establishing various management systems. Since 2012, the county has also improved the cityscape through its signboard maintenance project.
Additionally, by designating Clean Zones to prevent the proliferation of illegal advertisements along major roads and by maintaining and regulating political banners in accordance with the revised Outdoor Advertisement Act, the number of illegal advertisements (such as banners and flyers) has significantly decreased, and the use of designated banner posting stands has increased.
This year, in cooperation with the local residents' sewing club, the county produced and distributed about 600 agricultural flowerpots made from recycled discarded banners, supporting residents' production activities and contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality.
A county official stated, "We will continue to manage outdoor advertisements to create a beautiful and pleasant streetscape suitable for the ecological city of Damyang, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy."
