Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) has created murals on the retaining walls located on Bangulnae-ro 11-gil in Mangwon-dong, featuring paintings themed around "Filial Piety Meal" and reproductions of "Mapo Naru," which allows viewers to reflect on the history of Mapo.

The area around Bangulnae-ro 11-gil (Mangwon-dong) in Mapo-gu has retaining walls installed from Mangwon Reservoir to Exit 6 of Mapo-gu Office Station, with a height of 6 meters and a length of approximately 700 meters.

The gray concrete retaining walls give a stifling and barren feeling, so residents have continuously expressed the need for environmental improvement.

Accordingly, Mapo-gu selected this as a resident participation budget project and carried out mural work on the retaining walls extending 178 meters around the Filial Piety Meal Side Dish Factory from Bangulnae-ro 11-gil 153 to 198, and the 60-meter retaining wall near Bangulnae Nadeulmok from Bangulnae-ro 11-gil 77 to 97.

The retaining walls around the Filial Piety Meal Side Dish Factory feature paintings themed on "Filial Piety Meal," Mapo-gu’s representative senior welfare project.

Along with this, emotional phrases such as "Thank you, I love you" and "I will call you tomorrow too" were added to create a warm atmosphere.

On the retaining walls near "Bangulnae Nadeulmok," which will open in July 2024 and improve accessibility to the Han River and Seongsancheon Stream, the murals depict Mapo Naru, symbolizing Mapo, and the Seoul World Cup Stadium, where the 2002 World Cup was held, in a trick art style, allowing residents to simultaneously appreciate Mapo’s history and its glorious moments.

A representative of the Residents’ Autonomous Committee said, “The retaining wall murals have brought vitality to the previously dull residential area, resulting in very high satisfaction among local residents,” and added, “The brightened atmosphere will also help create a safer environment.”

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The mural work has created a bright and warm atmosphere and a street reflecting Mapo’s identity,” and added, “Mapo-gu will continue to do its best to create a pleasant living environment where residents can live comfortably.”
