Hope Higher and Brighter at Mapo-gu's First Sunrise Festival of 2025

Mapo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Gang-su) will hold the '2025 Haneul Park Sunrise Festival' at Haneul Park to welcome the Year of the Blue Snake (Eulsa year) in 2025.

The district has prepared the sunrise festival to greet the first sunrise of the new year 2025 with residents, pledge a hopeful start, and pray for the health and happiness of 370,000 Mapo-gu citizens.

The festival will open at 7 a.m. on January 1st with a grand traditional Korean drum (daebuk) performance to awaken the dawn.

Following this, Mayor Park Gang-su will join the residents in the first daebuk performance of the new year, appreciating the first sunrise filled with the energy of the Blue Snake year and celebrating a vigorous start to 2025.

After welcoming the first sunrise of the new year, a 'Sunrise Celebration Box' event commemorating 2025 will take place, providing attendees with an opportunity to share New Year's greetings and celebrate 2025 together.

According to the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, the expected time for the first sunrise of the new year is 7:47 a.m.

At the event site, various side events will be held, including the 'New Year's Wish Tree,' where citizens write their wishes for the new year and hang them on the wish tree, as well as daebuk experience activities.

In particular, the district plans to prioritize safety above all, anticipating a large number of citizens gathering early in the winter season.

Resident rest areas, heaters, and hot water will be prepared to warm attendees, and about 100 safety personnel will be concentrated in risky areas such as the Haneul stairs and slopes where falls may occur.

Additionally, to prevent traffic congestion on the day of the festival, traffic police and members of the Model Drivers Association will be deployed, and fire trucks and ambulances will be stationed at the festival site to prepare for fire and emergency accidents.

Citizens attending the event can use parking spaces free of charge until 9 a.m. at Peace Park, Nanji Stream Park, and Noeul Park parking lots.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "On the first day of the new year 2025, I sincerely hope everyone gains new hope and courage while watching the rising first sun and has a happy time. We have thoroughly prepared to ensure everyone can safely enjoy the sunrise festival, so please fully enjoy the first sunrise of the new year."
