Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolence to South Korea on the 29th (local time) regarding the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Jeonnam.
The state-run China Central Television (CCTV) reported around 6:30 p.m. that "President Xi sent a condolence telegram to Choi Sang-mok, Acting President of South Korea, regarding the Korean passenger plane accident."
President Xi said, "I was shocked to hear about the serious casualties caused by the Jeju Air passenger plane accident upon its return," adding, "On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, I express my deepest condolences to the victims and offer sincere sympathy to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery."
On the same day, the Fire Agency reported that Jeju Air flight 7C2216, carrying 181 passengers, collided with the outer wall of the runway while landing at Muan International Airport, causing a fire that resulted in 177 deaths and 3 missing persons.
