Lee Jae-myung Departs for Muan... "Will Spare No Support"

Democratic Party Establishes 'Situation Headquarters' at Jeonnam Provincial Party Headquarters

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, departed from the National Assembly to Muan County on the afternoon of the 29th to respond to the aircraft disaster that occurred at Muan International Airport in Muan County, Jeollanam-do. The Democratic Party decided to establish a countermeasure committee at the Jeollanam-do Provincial Party to handle the accident.


On the same day, Lee convened an emergency closed-door Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly and made this decision. After the meeting, he met with reporters and said, "It is a very tragic situation," adding, "Many people have lost their lives, and I offer my condolences. I extend my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims." He continued, "I hope the government authorities will mobilize all available resources to handle the situation and provide support as quickly as possible," and said, "The Democratic Party will also spare no effort in providing the maximum possible support."

Chief Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae conveyed the meeting's content, stating, "Through the meeting, it was decided to form the 'Aircraft Accident Countermeasure Committee' chaired by Supreme Council Member Joo Chul-hyun." Supreme Council Member Joo also serves as the chairman of the Democratic Party's Jeollanam-do Provincial Party. Under the committee, a situation headquarters, accident response support team, and bereaved families support team will be established. Assembly member Maeng Seong-gyu, chair of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, will serve as the head of the situation headquarters. Assembly member Shin Jeong-hoon, chair of the Administrative Safety Committee, was appointed as the head of the accident response support team, and Assembly member Seo Sam-seok was appointed as the head of the bereaved families support team.


Chief Spokesperson Cho said, "A situation headquarters is being set up at the Jeollanam-do Provincial Party office," adding, "There will be no disagreement (between ruling and opposition parties) that accident response should be the top priority." He also informed that Leader Lee will visit the Jeollanam-do Provincial Party located in Muan County to inspect the related situation and discuss on-site what support is needed.
