Kim Yoon-deok, Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Meeting
"Acceptance of Constitutional Court Justice and Special Prosecutor" Reiterated
Expresses Willingness to Persuade Instead of Final Ultimatum
The Democratic Party of Korea on the 29th urged Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Choi Sang-mok to appoint constitutional court justices and accept a special prosecutor investigation. However, unlike Acting Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who was impeached and suspended from duty, they showed an attitude of "trusting" without notifying any deadlines.
On the 28th, Kim Yoon-duk, Secretary General of the Democratic Party, said at a press briefing held at the National Assembly, "Acting Prime Minister Choi must remember that he is the Acting President of the Republic of Korea, not the Acting President of Yoon Seok-yeol," and added, "He must promptly appoint the three constitutional court justices recommended by the National Assembly and accept the special prosecutor investigation."
However, Secretary General Kim did not set any deadlines. Regarding the appointment of constitutional court justices, he said, "There has been no discussion about setting a deadline or a final limit, and we naturally believe that it will be done soon and are waiting with that trust." He also said, "Since Acting Prime Minister Choi has made various remarks before, we expect and are waiting for him to take action."
Regarding the approaching deadline on the 1st of next month for the promulgation of the so-called double special prosecutor laws, including the Internal Rebellion Special Prosecutor Act and the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Act, Secretary General Kim took a reserved stance on impeachment if Acting Prime Minister Choi exercises the right to request reconsideration (veto). He said, "We should wait a little," and added, "There are various opinions within the party, but we will wait patiently and carefully, persuading and engaging in dialogue." Secretary General Kim mentioned, "As seen in rallies, public anger is rising, so we plan to proceed through communication with the people."
Earlier, the Democratic Party impeached Acting Prime Minister Han on the 27th in a plenary session, suspending his duties after he withheld the appointment of constitutional court justices elected by the National Assembly, citing bipartisan agreement as the reason.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party said it is considering filing charges of inciting rebellion against some members of the People Power Party. Secretary General Kim stated, "Regarding individual figures, it is necessary to investigate and objectively verify their statements and actions," and added, "We are continuously collecting statements that appear to defend Yoon Seok-yeol's martial law issue."
