Gwanak-gu Receives Minister of Health and Welfare Award in 2024 Basic Pension Program Institution Evaluation

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) was selected as an outstanding institution in the '2024 Basic Pension Meritorious Institution Evaluation' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare.

Every year, the Ministry of Health and Welfare evaluates the performance of basic pension projects across local governments nationwide and selects 20 institutions that have contributed to the stability of elderly lives and the promotion of welfare.

The project performance evaluation is conducted by comprehensively considering the workload of each local government, efficient budget execution performance, and active cooperation in frontline local government tasks.

The district received high marks in areas such as ▲basic pension coverage rate ▲budget execution performance ▲activities of core basic pension personnel ▲support for Ministry of Health and Welfare dispatched work ▲performance of self-initiated projects aimed at strengthening coverage rates.

In particular, this year, the district appointed 'core basic pension personnel' and earned high scores in the Ministry of Health and Welfare cooperation category. Core basic pension personnel are composed of local government officials with extensive field experience and expertise in the basic pension, working to ensure the sound operation of the basic pension system.

Meanwhile, as of November this year, the district ranks seventh among Seoul’s autonomous districts in the population of elderly aged 65 and over. The 2024 basic pension budget is 187.6 billion KRW, and among the 87,335 elderly residents currently living in Gwanak-gu, 52,601, equivalent to 60%, receive the basic pension.

The district’s 2025 basic pension budget is approximately 208.4 billion KRW. Next year, efforts will continue to identify elderly residents who are not receiving pensions due to unregistered residency and monitor whether those reaching the eligible age are receiving pensions, aiming to eliminate welfare blind spots.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “I feel honored to receive the Minister of Health and Welfare’s commendation in the basic pension field, which contributes to the stability of elderly lives, aiming to realize the district administration policy of the 8th elected term, ‘Inclusive City, Welfare Together.’ We will continue to operate the basic pension, which forms the foundation for welfare promotion, in a solid manner to support the comfortable old age of the elderly.”
