On January 1, 2025, at 7 AM, a variety of programs will be held at the Eungbongsan Palgakjeong special stage to pray for New Year's wishes and announce a hopeful leap... Enjoy percussion Nanta performance, a cappella and electronic string instrument concerts, Daebuk drumming, and a wish-writing event using a large Bokjori.
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will hold the '2025 Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival' at the Eungbongsan Octagonal Pavilion on the first day of the new year 2025, the Year of the Eulsa (乙巳年).
The district holds the Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival every year to receive the vigorous energy of the rising new year and to wish for the health and happiness of its residents throughout the year. Eungbongsan is considered a representative urban sunrise spot where you can overlook the Han River, Seoul Forest, and the eastern part of Seoul at a glance.
This year's ‘Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival’ will begin at 7 a.m. on the special stage at the Octagonal Pavilion, featuring various programs to pray for new year wishes and announce a hopeful leap forward.
First, as a pre-event, there will be an energetic traditional percussion Nanta performance to greet the new year's morning with vigor. The main event will include acapella and electronic string performances, exchanging new year greetings, large drum playing, and a food market.
In particular, inspired by the large lucky straw shoes (bokjori) traditionally hung in every home on New Year's morning to receive blessings for the year, an event will be held where a large bokjori-shaped wish box is created so that all residents can pray together for their wishes to come true.
To ensure the ‘Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival’ proceeds safely, on December 16, a joint safety management plan review meeting was held, chaired by the Deputy Mayor of Seongdong-gu, with heads of relevant departments, Seongdong Police Station, Seongdong Fire Station, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation, and other related agencies. Detailed progress on the overall festival was shared, and thorough pre-inspections on traffic measures and safety plans for large crowds were conducted to prepare for a smooth festival.
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “I hope everyone welcomes the hopeful new year pleasantly at the ‘Eungbongsan Sunrise Festival,’ and we will do our best to manage safety, including facilities, to ensure a joyful and safe festival.” He added, “In the new year, we will continue to implement various policies so that all residents in Seongdong-gu, a great place to live, can add happiness and leisure to their daily lives and improve their quality of life.”
