Pusan National University signed a partnership agreement for mutual growth with the Busan Global City Foundation on the afternoon of the 26th at the first conference room on the 5th floor of the university headquarters.

Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to establish a cooperative system to strengthen global capabilities that go beyond the local to the global level, build a Busan-type global education platform, create a global hub city Busan through Busan branding, and promote the cultivation of global talents friendly to Busan.
Accordingly, they agreed to actively exchange and cooperate in various fields for the development of Busan, including human resource development for creating a global hub city Busan, attracting and supporting international students, joint efforts for regional development based on sustainable development goals, joint project planning in the field of international cooperation, and expanding networks.
Currently, Pusan National University has about 2,000 international students from 82 countries studying diligently, and there are 160 government-sponsored foreign scholars (GKS), ranking second among universities nationwide. In March 2025, the university plans to establish a ‘Global Liberal Arts Department’ for international students, operating a Pentomino major curriculum, Korean language, and employment and entrepreneurship education programs to nurture regional settlement-type global talents equipped with major and practical skills. In addition, it is actively engaged in international exchange activities as the sixth domestic university to join the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
The Busan Global City Foundation is Busan’s representative public diplomacy and media specialized institution, promoting private exchanges with major cities worldwide, supporting conditions for foreigners residing in Busan to settle comfortably, and media projects to create an ‘English-friendly city.’
Choi Jae-won, president of Pusan National University, said, “Pusan National University has grown into the number one national flagship university representing the southeastern region and South Korea, and is making every effort to internationalize to become the world’s best global university beyond Korea. Through this agreement, we will do our best to improve international competitiveness for creating a global hub city Busan in cooperation with the Busan Global City Foundation.”
Jeon Yong-woo, CEO of the Busan Global City Foundation, said, “The Busan Global City Foundation is creating the necessary foundational environment and promoting various projects for Busan to leap forward as a global hub city. In the future, we will work with Pusan National University to foster global talents, activate international exchanges, and contribute to raising Busan’s international status.”
