Gwangjin Square Reborn as a Healing Spot Where Nature and Relaxation Meet

Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) has transformed 'Gwangjin Square,' located near Children's Grand Park Station (Gunja-dong), into a new space where nature, culture, and relaxation harmonize.

Established in 2006 with an area of 4,052㎡, Gwangjin Square had seen low usage by residents due to aging facilities.

In response, the district not only renovated the facilities but also redesigned Gwangjin Square as a 'square embracing a park' so that residents can enjoy leisure and relaxation within the city.

First, to effectively cope with summer heatwaves, a ground fountain and cooling fog system were installed. In addition to providing a refreshing water play area, nine video projectors and 27 firefly lights will create a beautiful and mystical nighttime atmosphere.

Moreover, Gwangjin Square features a garden-style flowerbed planted with 2,515 trees including Zelkova, Holly Oak, and Nandina, as well as 3,434 herbaceous plants such as Korean Fir and Heuchera. It is expected that many visitors will be able to enjoy diverse natural scenery and relax throughout all four seasons.

Additionally, Gwangjin-gu installed a deck stage to enable residents to engage in various cultural activities. This stage will serve as a community space where people of all ages can gather and communicate through cultural events and busking performances.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, “Gwangjin Square has been transformed into a space where people can enjoy nature and relaxation in the city. We will continue to do our best to develop it into a local landmark where many residents can comfortably visit anytime with family, friends, and loved ones.”
