Discussion on Building a Roadmap for "Gwangju, the Hub City of Asian Culture" Gwangju City Council member Lee Gwisun held a policy discussion titled "Exploring the Asia Culture Centered City Development Project" on the afternoon of the 26th at the Mahan Historic Experience Center in Sinchang-dong, Gwangsan-gu. On the afternoon of the 26th, Gwangju City Council member Lee Gwisoon (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangsan-gu 4) held a policy forum under the theme "Reviewing the Asian Culture Hub City Development Project" at the Mahan Heritage Experience Center in Sinchang-dong, Gwangsan-gu, together with Representative Min Hyungbae and the Asian Culture Hub City Development Support Forum (hereinafter referred to as the Support Forum).


The policy forum began with an opening address by Min Hyungbae, a member of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, and was chaired by City Council member Lee Gwisoon. Jeong Seonggu, the chair of the Urban Environment Division of the Support Forum, delivered the keynote presentation. Panelists included Baek Okyeon, Team Leader of the Gwangsan-gu Office Cultural Heritage Utilization Team; Oh Eunyoung, CEO of Forum Culture and City; Yoon Hyunseok, CEO of Culture Network; and Lee Mincheol, Director of the Gwangsan-gu Urban Regeneration Community Center.


In his keynote presentation, Jeong Seonggu emphasized, "There are only three years left in the legally mandated period for the Asian Culture Hub City development," and added, "We must review the achievements so far and, considering the period beyond the legal mandate, draw up a roadmap for a balanced cultural city across all of Gwangju."


During the discussion, Baek Okyeon, Team Leader, stated, "Gwangsan-gu is the starting point of Gwangju's history and the gateway to Honam, a region where the historical symbolism of the Yeongsan River, the Sinchang-dong relics, and cultural diversity coexist," and stressed, "As a hub for historical exchanges with Asia, the development projects being promoted in Gwangsan-gu must be implemented effectively."


Lee Gwisoon stated, "To achieve a sustainable Asian Culture Hub City, the participation and interest of all citizens, as well as the role of each autonomous district, are essential," and added, "Through this forum, we must work together to establish a balanced roadmap for each district and review and promote cultural projects that have not yet been implemented, in order to create an Asian Culture Hub City in Gwangju that all citizens can experience."
