Chairman Jo Wonhui of the Daejeon City Council stated on the 26th, "Through continuous change and innovation, we will establish a strong and capable council dedicated solely to the development of Daejeon and the realization of the dreams and hopes of its citizens."
At a year-end press conference held that morning, Chairman Jo highlighted the main achievements of the council this year, including the integration and operation of policy support officers, the launch of the Innovation Advisory Committee, the strengthening of ethical standards for city council members, legislative accomplishments for 2024, and being selected as the top metropolitan council in the comprehensive integrity assessment of public institutions.
The Innovation Advisory Committee, the first advisory body directly under the chairman since the council's establishment, appointed 15 external experts in October and held its first meeting in November to gather opinions, actively reflecting public sentiment in legislative activities.
Chairman Jo announced that in 2025, the first year of the latter half of the 9th Daejeon City Council, the Innovation Advisory Committee will be operated on a regular basis to discover advanced policy tasks that will realize the dreams and hopes of citizens, calling for even faster change and innovation.
He also stated that for major issues promoting the development of Daejeon, the council will faithfully represent public opinion through cooperative partnerships, while also enhancing the quality of oversight mechanisms such as administrative audits and budget reviews.
Furthermore, based on the strengthened ethical standards for council members and the excellent integrity evaluation by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, he emphasized that the council will strive even harder next year to become a model of integrity trusted by citizens.
Regarding the launch of the Chungcheong Metropolitan Union and the Metropolitan Union Council, Chairman Jo said, "It will be the only viable alternative to counterbalance the Seoul metropolitan area-centered system," and added, "If Daejeon's research and development, Chungnam and Chungbuk's industrial facilities, and Sejong's administrative capital functions are integrated, Chungcheong will emerge as the new central region of Korea. The Daejeon City Council will actively cooperate and support the Union Council."
