Korail Certified as a ‘Family-Friendly Excellent Company’ for 14 Consecutive Years

Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 26th that it has been certified as a ‘Family-Friendly Excellent Company’ for 14 consecutive years.

The certification is awarded by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to companies that exemplary operate family-friendly systems such as flexible working hours to support childbirth and child-rearing.

KORAIL has maintained this certification for 14 years since first receiving it in 2010. Over the years, KORAIL has been highly evaluated for operating related systems to support childbirth, child-rearing and education, flexible working hours, support for employees and their dependents, and fostering a family-friendly workplace culture.

In particular, since last year, KORAIL has solidified its position as a family-friendly company by actively encouraging male employees to take parental leave. As a result, last year, the utilization rate of parental leave among male employees reached 55%, surpassing that of female employees for the first time.

Starting this year, KORAIL has expanded its childbirth encouragement policies by increasing the congratulatory allowance for the birth of a second child and granting additional paid family care leave days proportional to the number of children.

Han Moon-hee, President of KORAIL, said, “We will strive to discover systems that provide practical help to employees and create working conditions where work and family can coexist.” He added, “Through this, KORAIL will continue to contribute as a public enterprise to overcoming the low birthrate.”
