Ministry of Science and ICT Supports Resuming Transmission of Compensation Verification Council Period
Normalization from Noon on the 26th
CJ OnStyle announced that it will resume broadcasting to cable TV paid broadcasting operators (SO) D'Live, CCS Chungbuk Broadcasting, and Areum Broadcasting starting at noon on the 26th.
CJ OnStyle stated, "This decision respects the opinion of the Ministry of Science and ICT to resume broadcasting during the fee verification council period," adding, "It is a decision made to maintain the continuity of the paid broadcasting ecosystem through the prompt normalization of each business."
Earlier, CJ OnStyle had suspended broadcasting to D'Live, CCS Chungbuk Broadcasting, and Areum Broadcasting from midnight on the 5th. When negotiations over transmission fees, which had been ongoing since the beginning of the year, broke down, the company terminated the contract and decided on a 'blackout,' ceasing broadcasts to the SOs. This is the first time a home shopping company has implemented a blackout.
Transmission fees are the channel usage fees that TV home shopping companies pay to paid broadcasting operators. Home shopping companies determine the transmission fee rates through individual negotiations with paid broadcasting operators every year. According to the 'Home Shopping Broadcasting Channel Usage Contract Guidelines' announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT early last year, negotiations must be completed within eight months, consisting of a 'basic negotiation (5 months) + additional negotiation (3 months).' If negotiations are not concluded, mediation by the fee verification council organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT is required.
CJ OnStyle has expressed its intention to faithfully participate in the fee verification council and seek an amicable resolution. CJ OnStyle explained, "We will do our best to find a mutually agreeable solution with D'Live, CCS Chungbuk Broadcasting, and Areum Broadcasting."
