Marriage Registration Brings Financial Support... Gumi City to Provide Marriage Encouragement Fund Starting April Next Year
Youth Workers Aged 30 to 45 to Receive 1 Million Won Gumi Love Gift Certificate Upon Marriage
Gumi City in Gyeongbuk Province will newly implement the ‘Marriage Encouragement Subsidy Program’ for young workers starting April next year to address the issue of population decline in the ultra-low birthrate era.
This program is designed to reduce the economic burden on young people preparing for marriage and to encourage marriage and childbirth.
The eligibility criteria require that at least one spouse is aged 30 or older, both spouses are 45 or younger, and the marriage registration is made on or after January 1, 2025.
Additionally, at least one spouse must have been registered as a resident of Gumi City for at least six months prior to the payment date as of the application date. For economic activity requirements, one spouse must have worked at least 48 days in the last six months or maintained a personal business for at least 90 days as of the application date. All these conditions must be met to qualify for support.
The target group includes young workers, self-employed individuals, public officials, farmers, and part-time workers engaged in various economic activities.
The support amount is provided as 1 million KRW worth of Gumi Love Gift Certificates (card type), with 500,000 KRW paid upon the initial application and the remaining 500,000 KRW paid after a second application six months later. However, if only one spouse is registered as a resident of Gumi City, the support is limited to 500,000 KRW.
The application period is from three months after the marriage registration date up to 12 months, and applicants can apply by visiting the administrative welfare center of their registered address’s eup, myeon, or dong.
Mayor Kim Jang-ho emphasized, “This program will provide practical help to young people who delay or give up marriage due to economic burdens,” and added, “We will actively promote various policies to make Gumi a city where young people want to live.”
