Samsung Heavy Industries Wins Order for 3 Ethane Carriers...Achieves 75% of Annual Target

31 out of 36 Ships Are 'Eco-Friendly Fuel Vessels'

Samsung Heavy Industries has achieved 75% of its order target for this year.

Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 26th that it has signed a construction contract for three ultra-large ethane carriers worth 742.2 billion KRW with a shipowner in the Asia region. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially to the shipowner by December 2027.

Including this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries' cumulative orders for this year have reached approximately 7.3 billion USD (a total of 36 vessels), which is 75% of the annual target of 9.7 billion USD.

By ship type, the orders include 22 LNG carriers, 2 ultra-large ammonia carriers (VLAC), 1 shuttle tanker, 4 medium tankers, 4 container ships, and 3 ultra-large ethane carriers (VLEC).

Notably, eco-friendly fuel vessels such as LNG, ammonia, and ethane carriers account for 86% (31 vessels) of the total contracted ships.

A Samsung Heavy Industries official stated, "Orders for eco-friendly fuel propulsion vessels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are steadily increasing," adding, "Since we have strengths in developing eco-friendly technologies, we will actively respond to changes in the market environment."
