"Hoping to Ease the Economic Burden on Cheongnyeon"
Daejeon City will begin providing marriage encouragement funds to young couples starting from the 26th.
On the 25th, Daejeon City announced that as of the 23rd, over 10,000 people had applied for the marriage encouragement funds. The young couple marriage encouragement fund was introduced for the first time this year with the purpose of easing the initial economic burden of marriage for young people and encouraging them to settle in the region.

The eligible recipients are citizens aged 18 to 39 who have had a registered address in Daejeon since last October, have registered their first marriage since January of this year, and have continuously resided in Daejeon for at least six months up to the application date. Remarriages and foreigners are excluded from eligibility.
If both spouses meet the requirements, 5 million KRW (2.5 million KRW per person) will be provided. The marriage encouragement fund is granted only if the applicant meets all three criteria of age, marriage, and residence. After verifying eligibility based on the application details, applicants must open a dedicated account (Durihana Account) to be finally confirmed as recipients.
Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "I hope this will be joyful news for young newlywed couples who have waited a long time since the announcement of the marriage encouragement support project. We expect to ease the economic burden on young people even a little and will continue to strive to make this city a place where young people can settle and build happy families."
Local governments are increasingly strengthening marriage and childbirth support funds to encourage marriage and childbirth and prevent population outflow from the region. Uiryeong County in Gyeongnam Province will provide 1.5 million KRW in marriage encouragement funds starting next year. The support targets couples aged 49 or younger who register their marriage after January 1, 2025. From six months before the marriage registration date, at least one spouse must have resident registration in Uiryeong County, and both spouses must have resident registration in Uiryeong County as of the application date to be eligible. Of the 1.5 million KRW support fund, 500,000 KRW is paid immediately upon application, and the remaining 1 million KRW is paid after one year.
