What Are the 10-Year Achievements of the Busan Power Semiconductor SoBuJang Specialized Complex? ... Performance Sharing Meeting Today

Complex Development Performance Report and Comprehensive Plan for Semiconductor Industry Promotion

Busan City (Mayor Park Hyung-jun) will hold a performance sharing meeting for the Busan Power Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment (SoBuJang) Specialized Complex at 10:30 a.m. on the 26th at the Emerald Hall of Busan Nongsim Hotel.

This performance sharing meeting was organized to present the efforts and achievements over the past decade to foster power semiconductors as Busan's future new industry and to share the future vision.

Hosted by Busan City and organized by Busan Technopark, the event is expected to be attended by about 50 people including Lee Jun-seung, Busan City Deputy Mayor; Kim Hyung-gyun, Director of Busan Technopark; Lee Dong-sung, Deputy Governor of Gijang-gun; Choi Yoon-hwa, Chairman of the Korea Electric Power Device Industry Association; Kim Kwon-je, CEO of IQ Lab; and other semiconductor-related companies, associations, and university officials.

The event will be held in two parts. In Part 1, there will be ▲awards for meritorious service ▲screening of performance videos ▲report on the achievements of the specialized complex development ▲report on the city's comprehensive semiconductor industry promotion plan, followed by Part 2, which will include ▲the Education Development Committee (semiconductor incumbent worker education project).

Busan City has planned to foster the power semiconductor industry since 2012, and in 2016, after passing the preliminary feasibility study for the commercialization project of power semiconductors, it established the ‘Busan Power Semiconductor Commercialization Center’ and the ‘Reliability Evaluation and Certification Center,’ the only domestic public fab facility capable of batch processing.

Based on this, last July, it was designated as a power semiconductor SoBuJang specialized complex and is currently promoting customized support projects for the specialized complex. This project is responsible for the testbed, research and development, and workforce training.

Busan City plans to establish an industrial promotion roadmap for creating a semiconductor industry ecosystem in the future and will implement detailed plans for five strategic areas: infrastructure, technology, talent, companies, and cooperation.

Lee Jun-seung, Deputy Mayor of Busan City, said, “We will establish a strategic roadmap centered on the specialized complex for the development of the semiconductor industry and position Busan as a hub of semiconductor innovation,” adding, “We plan to support the specialized complex to become a collaboration base for the government, universities, and companies.”
