Since POSCO E&C established its base in Songdo, Incheon in 2010, it has been continuously engaging in social contribution activities in cooperation with local companies.
First, to support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, which are the foundation of the local economy, POSCO E&C has established a system that allows local companies to participate in construction projects carried out in Incheon.
In the case of Section 2 of the Incheon Yeongjong~Cheongna Connecting Road (3rd Yeonryukgyo) construction project, scheduled for completion next year, the company formed a consortium with eight Incheon-based companies?the largest number among several consortia at the time of bidding?and successfully won the contract. Additionally, the patented technologies and new construction methods of Incheon companies are given priority in the design phase to expand opportunities for local companies to participate in bidding.
The Yeongjong~Cheongna Connecting Road is a large-scale project constructing a 4.67 km long, 29 m wide, six-lane dual carriageway. Among the three bridges connecting inland Incheon and Yeongjong Island, it is the only one equipped with an observatory, bicycle paths, and sidewalks, expected to become a popular leisure spot for both local residents and tourists.
In particular, in June, the installation of the main tower’s large block at a height of 92.4 m, the most challenging part of the entire construction, was successfully completed, making it the bridge with the largest steel tower installation record in Korea. Currently, the installation of the main tower’s horizontal beam, where the world’s highest 180 m high bridge observatory will be located, has also been completed.

POSCO E&C recently formed another consortium with Incheon companies such as Jinheung Corporation, Hanyang, Wonkwang Construction, Seondu General Construction, and Teuin to bid for the 'Incheondae-ro General Road Improvement (Phase 2) and Congestion Road Improvement Project' commissioned by Incheon City.
Under the vision of 'Happy Builders; Building Sustainable Happiness,' meaning to build the value of sharing with the local community, POSCO E&C practices social contribution. Among these, the 'Local Children’s Center One&One' project is a representative social contribution activity that has continued for 15 years.
About 30 departments within the company have formed sisterhood ties with 30 children’s centers, supporting child care through regular volunteer activities such as tutoring, leisure activities, and mentoring. Since 2022, ecological and environmental experiential education such as beekeeping, mudflat, black-faced spoonbill, forest experiences, and seed planting has been conducted, allowing children who were previously confined indoors to experience nature through outdoor activities, resulting in high beneficiary satisfaction.
Various programs are also supported for children and adolescents living in 19 group homes within the region.
Last year, a 2-day, 1-night residential program combining career and cultural arts was held as a career aptitude camp, and this year, a camping program was operated from the 15th to the 23rd of last month for children with limited outdoor activity opportunities. Additionally, using an ethics fund donated by employees, a project has begun to improve study rooms in four group homes with poor living conditions by renovating wallpaper, flooring, and replacing furniture.
POSCO E&C is also focusing on transforming approximately 15,000 pyeong of barren land, including the abandoned salt farm site on Yeongjong Island, Incheon, along the west coast, into a blue carbon project habitat filled with halophytes such as Salicornia and Suaeda maritima. Through this, about 16.5t of carbon can be absorbed annually, which is equivalent to the effect of planting approximately 2,500 trees, promising efficient carbon reduction effects.
In the future, the project scope will be expanded to mudflats, and the completed habitats will be used as ecological experience sites linked to future generation ecological environmental education, continuing blue carbon-related social contribution activities.
Since 2015, POSCO E&C has operated a talent volunteer group that builds a culture of sharing in the local community through individuals’ capabilities and talents.
Currently, 30 groups are active, including a residential environment improvement volunteer group, sports volunteer groups such as badminton and soccer with children from local children’s centers, music volunteer groups such as choir, band, and orchestra that convey emotions to the community, and mentoring volunteer groups that educate on various topics from elementary to university students.
A POSCO E&C official stated, "As we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year, we will take the opportunity to reflect on the significance of the numerous volunteer activities participated in by our employees and continue customized social contribution activities as a leading construction company in the Incheon region."
