Kyungdong University 'Yangju Studies' Course, a Catalyst for Youth Regional Settlement
'Yangju Studies' College Students' SNS Posts Exposed Over 110,000 Times
Regular Admission Applications for 2025 Academic Year Open from 31st to January 3rd
Kyungdong University (President Jeon Seong-yong), supported by Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province, is operating the liberal arts course 'Yangjuhak,' which is having a positive impact on understanding and promoting the Yangju region. It is evaluated as a catalyst for helping students, both from Yangju and those from outside the area attending Kyungdong University located in Yangju, to understand the local community and settle in the region.
Yangjuhak, operated by Kyungdong University's On-Saram Liberal Arts Education College since 2018, is a comprehensive study of Yangju, a central brand of northern Gyeonggi, covering △history and place names △cultural heritage and figures △industry, culture, and daily life △urban development and the future. So far, it has produced over 500 students.
Yangjuhak goes beyond the classroom by visiting sites such as Hoam Temple Site and museums, including the Jang Uk-jin and Min Bok-jin Art Museums, and engaging in field explorations like learning Yangju Byeolsandae Nori and Najeon Chilgi (mother-of-pearl lacquerware). On June 13, a special lecture by Yangju Mayor Kang Su-hyun was highly appreciated by students for helping them understand local issues.
Yangjuhak also plays a significant role in promoting Yangju. The faculty assigns cyber posting tasks to students, resulting in about 1,500 pieces of content posted annually on SNS accounts. Kyungdong University estimates that this has generated approximately 110,000 exposures so far.
Kyungdong University, which values community cooperation, has Vice President of Liberal Arts Education, Lee Man-sik, directly overseeing Yangjuhak.
Vice President Lee said, “Cooperation between local governments and universities provides students with a positive understanding of the region. Yangjuhak greatly helps in nurturing young talent and their settlement in the area,” adding, “It is regrettable that although the number of applicants has more than doubled and there is a plan to increase the number of classes, budget constraints pose difficulties.”
Meanwhile, Kyungdong University will accept applications for the 2025 regular admissions from the 31st of this month until January 3rd of next year. For more details, please refer to the admissions information website or contact by phone.
