In July 2022, Yang Jae-woong purchased a building spanning from the basement level 1 to the 5th floor above ground in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, under the name of Brother World Co., Ltd., where he serves as CEO. Brother World is an advertising agency co-operated by Yang and his older brother, psychiatrist Yang Jae-jin. The asking price at the time was 10.5 billion KRW, but the actual transaction was reportedly completed at 10 billion KRW.

Notably, the building is included in the Hannam 3 District redevelopment project and is expected to be demolished in the first half of next year, leading to the prevailing interpretation that the purchase was aimed at real estate investment through reconstruction rather than rental business.

Yang Jae-woong was scheduled to marry Hani, with whom he has been in a public relationship since 2022, in September. However, the wedding was postponed after it was revealed in May that a 36-year-old woman died 17 days after being admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, where Yang serves as director. The National Forensic Service estimated the cause of death to be acute pseudo-intestinal obstruction based on the autopsy. The forensic institute suggested that medications administered at the hospital operated by Yang might have contributed to the death.

Regarding the incident, in July, Yang issued a statement through his agency Mystic Story, saying, "This incident occurred at the hospital where I am the representative, and as the hospital director, I take this matter very seriously," and added, "Our hospital is cooperating fully with external agencies by providing medical charts and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage containing all relevant information during the investigation." However, during the National Assembly Health and Welfare Committee’s audit on October 23, he denied any hospital negligence. When asked if he had personally apologized to the bereaved family, he replied, "I have not yet..." indicating he had not apologized but expressed, "I have always intended to apologize."
