Audit Organization Praised for Independence and Expertise
Gwangju City announced on the 25th that it received the highest grade, Grade A, in the '2024 Internal Audit Activity Evaluation (2023 Audit Performance)' conducted by the Board of Audit and Inspection. This marks the city's achievement of the top grade for three consecutive years, ranking first among special and metropolitan cities, and being recognized for its top-level audit capabilities nationwide.
The Board of Audit and Inspection evaluates the audit activities of 677 organizations, including local governments, central ministries, and public institutions, every year in accordance with the 'Public Audit Act.' The evaluation criteria are divided into ten indicators, such as improvement of audit infrastructure, audit planning and execution capability, audit performance, follow-up management, and support for proactive administration, with grades ranging from A to D.
The city prioritized securing the independence and expertise of its audit organization as its foremost goal. To this end, it received high marks by implementing multifaceted measures such as strengthening internal controls, discovering best practices, promoting cooperation between audit organizations, activating routine audits, and operating the Integrity Task Force.
Lim Taehyung, Chairperson of the Gwangju City Audit Committee, stated, "This year's audit policy focused not only on post-audit activities but also on addressing the root causes of improper administration and improving unreasonable systems and practices," adding, "We will continue to support administrative development by conducting audits that provide practical assistance to the audited institutions."
