Park Chan-dae "26th is the Last Chance"
The Democratic Party of Korea has decided to determine on the 26th whether to file an impeachment motion against Acting Prime Minister Han Deok-su.
On the 24th, Floor Leader Park Chan-dae told reporters, "As anticipated, we planned to file the impeachment motion at 5:30 PM today, but we decided to hold the plenary session on the 26th and observe the appointment procedure immediately after the consent for the appointment of three Constitutional Court justices is granted." The Democratic Party's position is that if their demands are not met on the 26th, they will file the impeachment motion and report it at the plenary session on the 27th.
The Democratic Party summarized five reasons for impeaching Acting Prime Minister Han. As Prime Minister, he recommended a veto on the special investigation law concerning First Lady Kim Geon-hee, convened a Cabinet meeting on the night of the emergency martial law declaration, thereby siding with the rebellion, and attempted to exercise additional power through the "Han Deok-su-Han Dong-hoon system" before the president's authority ended. Regarding his time as acting prime minister, they cited his neglect of the obligation to appoint a permanent special investigator for the rebellion, thereby obstructing the investigation, and his refusal to appoint Constitutional Court justices, neglecting the duty to promptly end the rebellion.
On the morning of the same day, Acting Prime Minister Han did not submit the rebellion or First Lady Kim Geon-hee special investigation law to the Cabinet meeting, stating, "To wisely handle contentious issues such as the special investigation law and the appointment of Constitutional Court justices, where legal interpretations and political views conflict, it is above all necessary for the ruling and opposition parties to come together," thereby passing the responsibility to the National Assembly.
The Democratic Party unanimously adopted the impeachment motion against Acting Prime Minister Han as party policy at a party meeting but postponed the filing timing.
Floor Leader Park emphasized, "The 26th is the last chance. Acting Prime Minister Han must actively cooperate with the people's mandate to end the rebellion."
