On the 24th, Mao Ning, spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, announced at a briefing, "Foreign Minister Iwaya will visit China on the 25th in response to an invitation," adding, "Director Wang Yi will hold a foreign ministers' meeting with Foreign Minister Iwaya and jointly attend the 2nd meeting of the China-Japan High-Level Cultural Exchange Negotiation Mechanism."

Spokesperson Mao Ning added, "In November this year, President Xi Jinping held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, agreeing to maintain high-level exchanges and effectively utilize high-level dialogue mechanisms in areas such as economy and culture."
He further stated, "The Chinese leader will meet with Foreign Minister Iwaya," indicating that the highest level of Chinese leadership will receive Foreign Minister Iwaya.
Earlier, Japan's Asahi Shimbun reported that Foreign Minister Iwaya would visit China from the 24th to the 26th and that arrangements were being made for him to meet with Li Chang, Premier of the State Council and considered the 'second-in-command' in China, during his visit.
