On the 22nd (local time), the Chinese online media outlet 'Bastille Post' reported the story of Ms. A (17), who did not drink a single glass of water for a year and consumed five bottles of cola daily.

It was reported that Ms. A did not brush her teeth before going to bed. In October, she experienced pain whenever she drank warm water or when her teeth were exposed to the wind, and after visiting the dentist, she was diagnosed with decay in 15 teeth.

The oral condition of Ms. A, as captured by medical staff, is shocking. Her front teeth were discolored brown to the point where their shape was barely recognizable.

The medical team explained the condition of Ms. A's teeth, stating, "The carbonic acid in the cola damaged the surface of the teeth," adding, "The enamel layer has thinned, and cavities have formed. This condition can affect daily activities such as eating, and if severe, it may lead to tooth loss."

Eventually, Ms. A quit drinking cola. She also started brushing her teeth with fluoride-containing toothpaste and underwent filling treatments and root canal therapy for two months to restore the decayed teeth, which finally helped her recover her dental health.

The harmful effects of carbonated drinks like cola on dental health are already well known. The carbonic acid in cola gradually weakens the enamel layer that covers the surface of the teeth upon contact.

Therefore, when drinking cola, it is recommended to use a straw to minimize exposure to the teeth. It is also advised to brush teeth 30 minutes after consuming carbonated drinks. Additionally, rinsing the teeth with water before brushing is beneficial, as the carbonic acid residue on the gums can further wear down the teeth.
