Jeongsina, Kakao CEO, Visits Data Center in Ansan Ahead of Year-End and New Year

Kakao announced on the 24th that CEO Jeong Shin-ah visited the Kakao Data Center Ansan to inspect the stable provision of services.

This visit was made to check the infrastructure status and the stability of various Kakao services ahead of the year-end and New Year period, when KakaoTalk traffic surges due to Christmas and New Year greetings.

The average number of messages sent per second on KakaoTalk is 45,000, with a daily average of over 10 billion messages sent and received. At the moment transitioning from December 31 to January 1 of the following year, an enormous volume exceeding three times the average traffic occurs simultaneously, and during major events, traffic can increase up to ten times the usual amount.

CEO Jeong told the on-site employees, "The data center is like the heart of Kakao services," and added, "Thanks to your efforts, users can share important moments through KakaoTalk. I hope you continue to connect everyone's daily lives safely with this sense of mission."

Kakao plans to ensure service stability during the year-end and New Year period by maintaining systems such as server expansion, emergency workforce deployment, and traffic distribution operations.

Previously, Kakao has established and applied execution systems to enhance stability, including systematic fault response, strengthened monitoring systems, fault simulation training, information security practices, and the construction of redundant systems.

Meanwhile, the Kakao Data Center Ansan, located within Hanyang University ERICA Campus in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, has a total floor area of 47,378㎡ and can house over 100,000 servers in 4,000 racks. The data center was completed in September last year with the goal of infrastructure expansion and began operation in January this year.
