No Sang-won Runs Fortune-Telling Shop in Ansan, Gyeonggi

Former Intelligence Commander Noh Sang-won, identified as a key figure in the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,' reportedly told former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun that "President Yoon Suk-yeol's luck will open up this year."

On the 23rd, Chosun Ilbo reported that "Noh, during police questioning, stated that he gave advice based on President Yoon Suk-yeol's saju (Four Pillars of Destiny) and physiognomy." Initially, former Minister Kim was negative about declaring martial law this year, but after Noh cited President Yoon's luck as a reason, it is believed that December 3 was chosen as the date to declare martial law.

On the 19th, JTBC reported that Noh operated a fortune-telling shop in a semi-basement house in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. It was confirmed that after being dishonorably discharged following a prison sentence for sexual crimes against a female subordinate in 2018, he opened the fortune-telling shop with two women. The fortune-teller who was in partnership with him said, "Noh studied Myeongrihak (Korean fortune-telling) for about 10 years," adding, "He also has spiritual energy. He mastered philosophy, naming, and saju."

In the neighborhood, Noh's residence was rumored to be a fortune-telling shop and was known to be so popular that customers lined up. A clerk at a nearby store recognized him immediately upon seeing his photo, calling him "Bosal-nim" (a respectful term for a fortune-teller), and said, "I often saw him ordering rice cakes to perform gut (shamanistic rituals)." Another resident said, "I was surprised when two very nice cars came at midnight, and they took out fortune-telling tools from inside the cars. There were gongs, wood, and flags." Outside the fortune-telling shop, there was a signboard with the 'man' (卍) character and the words '○○ Bosal,' along with a sticker that read 'Model Shaman of Ansan City.' However, the signboard disappeared after the report.

The police recently secured a notebook from this location containing detailed plans for martial law. The notebook included notes such as "Induce North's attack at the Northern Limit Line (NLL)" and referred to politicians, journalists, religious figures, labor unions, judges, and public officials as "collection targets."

Meanwhile, Noh is suspected of leading the martial law operation as a civilian. Police investigations revealed that two days before the martial law declaration, on the 1st, he met with Intelligence Commander Moon Sang-ho and two intelligence colonels at a hamburger restaurant to premeditate the martial law plan.
