At the signing ceremony, Lee Jun-seung, Deputy Mayor of Busan, Gong Han-su, Mayor of Seo-gu, Choi Jae-won, President of Pusan National University, and Jung Sung-woon, Director of Pusan National University Hospital, attended and signed the agreement.

This agreement aims to establish a 'regional complete global hub medical center' equipped with advanced medical technology and facilities through mutual cooperation among related organizations, to ▲expand essential regional medical infrastructure, ▲strengthen treatment capabilities for severe and emergency patients, minimize the medical gap with the metropolitan area, and provide the best medical services to local residents.

Once the agreement is signed, Pusan National University Hospital and Pusan National University will ▲focus their capabilities on providing regional complete medical services and building infrastructure for foreign patient care through the establishment of the global hub medical center, while the city and Seo-gu will actively cooperate and support the administrative procedures necessary for the construction of the medical center.

Furthermore, the four institutions will jointly cooperate on key procedures such as preliminary feasibility studies and budget securing, and jointly promote regional specialized projects and bio-industry research.

They also plan to mutually cooperate in support and promotion to revitalize public health projects and other cooperative relationships for community development.

The 'Global Hub Medical Center Construction Project' includes the redevelopment of the basement and outpatient connection building of the main building of Pusan National University Hospital, and the reconstruction of the administrative and research building, the Convergence Medical Research Building (Building S), into a state-of-the-art medical center with advanced medical technology and facilities, consisting of five basement floors and eight above-ground floors.

It will include ▲Children's Integrated Care Center ▲Rehabilitation Medicine Center ▲Integrated Cancer Care Center ▲International Medical Center, with a total project cost estimated at 706.5 billion KRW.

To this end, Pusan National University Hospital formed a project promotion team in May last year in line with the city's 'Global Hub City Development Plan' and Seo-gu's 'Global High Medi-Hub Special Zone Designation,' completing project planning, design, and feasibility study services.

The goal is to pass the preliminary feasibility study in the first half of 2026, start construction in 2027, and complete it by 2036.

Pusan National University Hospital expects that the successful promotion of this project will contribute to regional economic revitalization and job creation effects.

Lee Jun-seung, Deputy Mayor of Busan, said, "With today's agreement, I hope the establishment of the global hub medical center to expand our city's essential medical infrastructure will proceed smoothly," adding, "The city will continue to provide administrative support without hesitation to ensure a stable emergency medical system and high-quality medical services, which are essential elements for Busan's leap to a 'Global Hub City.'"
