Ascon specialist company SG announced on the 24th that it has signed a slag supply contract with special steel manufacturer SeAH Besteel.
SG and SeAH Besteel held a signing ceremony for the slag supply agreement at SG headquarters located in Seo-gu, Incheon, at 4 p.m. on the 23rd. This is an extension of the contract period, volume, and price confirmation contract signed with SeAH Besteel last September.
Under this contract, SG will receive 100,000 tons of steelmaking slag annually from SeAH Besteel starting in 2025. This is the second supplier after signing a contract to receive steelmaking slag from POSCO in May.
SG is the only company in Korea with eco-steel Ascon manufacturing technology and obtained related patents in July 2020 after about nine years of research and development. This contract targets steelmaking slag used as aggregate in eco-steel Ascon.
Eco-steel Ascon is produced using slag, a byproduct after steelmaking, unlike conventional Ascon which uses natural aggregates. Since it uses high-strength aggregates, it has significantly higher strength and durability compared to general Ascon, making it a material attracting attention overseas as well.
A company official stated, “Currently, we are laying the groundwork for entering overseas markets such as Ukraine, India, and Indonesia, as well as the domestic market,” adding, “This contract for securing raw materials is essential amid rapidly increasing orders.”
He continued, “2024 was a year to secure market share for eco-steel Ascon and establish a foundation for full-scale supply expansion,” emphasizing, “In 2025, a quantum jump in sales is expected due to the expansion of global infrastructure investment.”
Meanwhile, the company obtained a patent in Ukraine on the 23rd for the ‘method of producing steelmaking slag aggregate and manufacturing steelmaking slag asphalt concrete mixture.’
