Efficient Resource Allocation to Improve Residents' Quality of Life ▲Strengthening Welfare Policies ▲Creating a Premium Street on Songpa-daero ▲Focusing on Developing a Cultural and Sports City
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that the 2025 budget has been finalized at 1.2394 trillion KRW.
This represents an increase of 31.1 billion KRW, approximately 2.57%, compared to last year.
The district allocated this budget focusing on ▲strengthening welfare by demographic groups such as childbirth, seniors, and the disabled ▲creating a premium street along Songpa-daero ▲promoting culture, arts, and community sports to realize “Songpa, a premium city serving its residents as owners.”
First, 742.2 billion KRW was assigned to welfare, health, job creation, and small business support. This accounts for 59.9% of the total budget, emphasizing support for socially vulnerable groups.
Childcare policies will be strengthened to satisfy parents, children, and childcare staff through expanding Seoul-style kids cafes and improving childcare workers’ treatment. Additionally, the district will support stable senior life by expanding senior job opportunities and opening the Munjeong Senior Welfare Center, provide activity allowance support for the disabled, and ensure systematic operation of the Disabled Welfare Center to prevent social exclusion.
For small business support, Songpa Love Gift Certificates worth 15 billion KRW will be issued, traditional market environments improved, and a comprehensive support center for small businesses operated to revitalize the local economy.
Next, 159.5 billion KRW will be invested in safety, transportation, environment, and urban infrastructure management to create a premium city.
In the first half of next year, the first work of Songpa Media Forest, “The Spear,” will be installed in Seokchon Lake West Lake, a “premium pine forest” will be created at the Seongnam-Songpa gateway, and the Jangji Stream waterfront emotional space will be developed. The premium street project along Songpa-daero will be actively promoted to create a vibrant and visually rich “representative walking street of Seoul.”
Furthermore, aging park facilities will be refurbished, and major boulevards will be decorated as gardens blooming with flowers all year round to enhance the urban landscape, allowing residents to experience greenery and happiness in their daily lives.
To enrich residents’ lives through culture and sports, 26.8 billion KRW has been allocated.
The Songpa Residents’ Hall will be remodeled into a cultural and arts center to strengthen support for local artists and expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for residents. “The Gallery Hosu,” which opened last month, will be operated steadily, and unique local festivals such as the Hanseong Baekje Cultural Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, and Luminarie will be held to create a city flowing with culture and arts.
Additionally, community sports such as the residents’ sports festival and walking events will be promoted, and in line with the era of 15 million pet owners, pet culture events including a dog water play area will be held to foster a healthy companion animal culture.
In education, 28.2 billion KRW has been allocated to strengthen educational welfare through school facility improvements, meal support, and public library operation support. Furthermore, native English classes at daycare centers and kindergartens will be expanded to workplace daycare centers to create an equitable educational environment.
Finally, 282.7 billion KRW will be invested in general administration to ensure smooth district operations. To prepare for future administrative demands, a new government building construction project will be promoted, and investment will be made in public officials’ capacity development so they can carry out creative and innovative governance.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “2025 is an important year when the core projects of the 8th elected term will be concretized and felt by residents.” He added, “We have strived to allocate limited resources to strengthen welfare and improve residents’ quality of life where it is most needed, and we will execute the budget appropriately without waste to carry out projects to the best of our ability.”
