This forum was organized to promote the on-site expansion of AI digital education policies pursued by Gyeonggi education, aiming to open a new horizon for digital-based essay-type assessments. Approximately 230 participants, including teachers, education professionals, and representatives from digital companies, showed great interest.


The main agenda began with a keynote presentation on the topic “Is AI-Utilized Essay-Type Assessment Scorable?” It was followed by discussions on the direction and diagnosis of AI-utilized essay-type assessments, examples of scoring and feedback in English essay-type performance assessments, cases of applying essay-type assessment scoring programs, utilization and direction of the ‘Hi-Learning’ AI essay diagnostic tool, and a discussion on application plans and field proposals for essay-type assessments.


In particular, the forum shared research results aimed at securing objectivity and reliability of essay-type assessment outcomes using AI platforms. Accordingly, it broadened awareness of AI’s potential as a fair and efficient evaluation tool.


Participants agreed in the discussion that collaboration between teachers and AI can enable student-tailored, growth-centered assessments. They also suggested strengthening teachers’ evaluation design capabilities to ensure that the purpose and methods of essay-type assessments are not overshadowed by AI tools. Additionally, they proposed the need for the advancement of ‘Hi-Learning’ and enhanced technological support for generative AI.


O Chan-sook, Director of Talent Development at the Provincial Office of Education, stated, “The introduction of an AI-utilized essay-type assessment system will develop students’ creativity and thinking skills, leading to desirable growth and potential realization.” She added, “We will strive to ensure that AI-utilized essay-type assessments create a virtuous cycle in school field education going forward.”
