Phone Call Again After 12 Days... Reaffirming Korea-Japan Cooperation

The foreign ministers of South Korea and Japan reaffirmed the policy that momentum for the development of bilateral relations must be maintained.


On the 23rd, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol spoke with Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi and exchanged views on South Korea's domestic situation and future Korea-Japan relations. During the 20-minute call that morning, Minister Cho explained that the South Korean government is stably managing overall state affairs under an acting authority system and that the diplomatic stance, including the development of Korea-Japan relations, will be maintained without wavering.

Additionally, Minister Cho emphasized that there are no concerns regarding the normal economic activities of foreign companies and urged that economic cooperation between the two countries continue.


Both sides reaffirmed that strong cooperation between Korea and Japan, as well as among Korea, the U.S., and Japan, must continue to respond to the serious international situation, including the North Korean issue. They agreed to maintain close communication at all levels going forward, and with the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan approaching next year, they will diligently prepare related projects to make it a meaningful year for Korea-Japan relations.


The call between the foreign ministers of Korea and Japan was the first in 12 days since the 11th.
