Dobong-gu, Complete Redesign of KEPCO Aboveground Equipment from Banghak Intersection to Sindobong Intersection
District Urban Brand (BI) and Tourist Attractions Incorporated into Design
Improvements Planned for Next Year from Jeongui Middle School Intersection to Banghak Intersection

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) announced that it has completely improved the design of the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) ground equipment installed on the pedestrian path from Banghak Intersection to Sindobong Intersection.

The KEPCO ground equipment refers to devices containing ground switches and transformers, installed as part of the underground power line project.

However, these devices had become an eyesore for pedestrians due to graffiti and illegal advertisements, damaging the city’s aesthetics.

In response, the district took action. The district applied designs featuring Dobong-gu’s urban brand identity (BI) and tourist attractions to these devices. The designs included images and locations of Dobong-gu’s historical, cultural, and natural tourist spots such as Seoul Arena, Seoul Robot Artificial Intelligence Science Museum, Seoul Photo Museum, Dooly Museum, Kansong Old House, and Dobongsan Mountain.

The result was a great success. A resident of Banghak-dong, Mr. A, said, “I commute along this path every day, but I used to avoid these devices because they had become eyesores. Recently, I saw a child looking at them with their parents, and I thought the improvement was well done.”

Additionally, the district installed anti-adhesive sheets to prevent illegal advertisements from being posted on the devices. A district official stated, “We will continue to manage these devices in cooperation with KEPCO, the entity responsible for their maintenance.”

Currently, the district is promoting the underground power line project in seven sections, including Dobong-ro area and school commuting routes within the region. For the sections where undergrounding is completed, the district plans to expand the design improvement project for the ground equipment. Next year, the design improvement project will be carried out for the section from Dobong-ro Jeongui Middle School Intersection to Banghak Intersection, where the undergrounding project will be completed.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “We will continue to promote the underground power line project and the ground equipment aesthetics improvement project to create a safe and pleasant walking environment, and ultimately build a vibrant city.”
