On the same day, Trump announced through his social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, which he created, "Steve will work with my economic team to achieve a Great Economic Boom for all Americans."

Mnuchin, who holds a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University, served as an economic policy advisor at the Treasury Department during Trump's first administration.

After Trump's announcement of the appointment, Mnuchin wrote on his SNS, X (formerly Twitter), "I am very honored" and added, "I look forward to helping implement the President's policy agenda for inflation-free economic growth that will bring prosperity to all Americans."

He is expected to support the implementation of policies such as large-scale tax cuts and tariff increases, which Trump pledged during his candidacy for the second term.

Previously, Mnuchin expressed strong support for Trump's tariff policies. Last month, he said on X, "I am very pleased that President Trump is already using tariffs to secure negotiating power to enhance the security achievements of Americans," adding, "Finally, the problem is not being neglected but is being actively addressed."
