SKT plans to manage communication quality by preparing regional communication measures in anticipation of increased traffic during this year’s Christmas season. Additionally, it will designate the two days from December 31 to January 1 as a special communication measure period and operate a control room.

During this period, SKT will deploy approximately 900 specialized personnel daily from its subsidiaries, affiliates, and partners including SKT, SK Broadband, SK O&S, and Home & Service to monitor communication services 24 hours a day.

Previously, SKT expanded the capacity of 5G and LTE base stations nationwide, focusing on areas expected to see increased mobile communication traffic such as bell-ringing ceremonies and New Year events, sunrise viewing spots, train stations, bus terminals, major tourist attractions, accommodations, and other crowded areas.

SKT predicts that nationwide data usage on December 31 will increase by about 7% compared to normal days and has completed pre-quality inspections and service optimization work.

Furthermore, SKT has forecasted and prepared countermeasures for traffic surges due to social media (SNS) and message transmissions related to New Year greetings on January 1.

In addition, anticipating an increase in illegal spam and hacking, SKT is strengthening real-time monitoring and response to security breach attempts such as mobile malicious apps and web hacking. It will closely monitor for DDoS attacks on its services, respond to government impersonation and international-origin smishing, and also focus on monitoring zombie devices.

Yoon Hyung-sik, Head of Infrastructure Operations at SK Telecom, stated, “We plan to ensure stable service operation so that customers can spend the year-end and welcome the New Year in a peaceful and happy daily life.”
