"Within the scope of maintaining the dignity of public officials, please use traditional markets and local shopping districts to hold year-end gatherings."
The head of a local government has drawn attention by appealing for the holding of year-end gatherings such as year-end parties to revive the struggling local economy amid the impeachment political turmoil.
Kim Jae-wook, the governor of Chilgok County, attended the opening ceremony of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association Gyeongbuk Branch on the 19th and urged public officials and the local community to hold year-end gatherings such as year-end parties to help recover the grassroots economy.
Kim Jae-wook, the mayor of Chilgok County, is focusing administrative efforts on revitalizing local shopping districts by actively encouraging public officials and the local community to hold year-end gatherings.
Mayor Kim, following the opening ceremony of the Gyeongbuk branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association on the 19th, urged the local community again at the Chilgok County Office executive meeting on the 20th, saying, "The recent consecutive political instability has dealt a direct blow to the local economy," and requested, "Please hold the year-end gatherings that have been restrained until now."
As year-end and New Year events such as year-end parties were canceled, causing great difficulties for the local economy, it was judged that Chilgok County public officials need to take the lead in spreading a culture of responsible consumption.
Mayor Kim adjusted the cafeteria closure day, which was operated biweekly, to every Friday, encouraging about 500 county office employees to use nearby restaurants, thereby contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
In addition, year-end and New Year events for public officials are being carried out as planned within the region, and traditional markets and shopping streets have been designated by department to encourage dining and purchasing goods locally, as well as actively promoting the use of public transportation such as taxis and buses.
Along with this, the discount rate for Chilgok Love Gift Certificates, issued to promote local economic consumption, will be increased from 7% to 10% starting next year, and support for interest on working capital loans for small and medium enterprises and happiness loans for small business owners has been expanded.
Furthermore, ongoing projects are being ordered early, and consulting and educational programs for self-employed and small business owners have been strengthened.
Mayor Kim stated, "The important thing is that policies must be directly felt by the residents in their daily lives," and added, "We will meticulously oversee and mobilize all human and material resources available as a local government to revitalize the local economy."
He continued, "Everyone, whether public officials or civilians, must join forces to restore the frozen consumer sentiment," and urged, "Public officials, social organizations, and residents alike should hold year-end gatherings using markets or local shopping districts that have a significant impact on the local economy, within a modest and unobtrusive scope."
