A Military Service Distinguished Family refers to a family in which all members from the first-generation grandfather to the third-generation grandson have honorably completed active military service, selected annually through the Military Manpower Administration’s review.
To honor and support Military Service Distinguished Families, Gyeonggi Province enacted the ‘Ordinance on the Honor and Support of Military Service Distinguished Families in Gyeonggi Province’ in 2015, implementing various benefits such as discounts on usage fees for facilities within the province. Additionally, since 2016, the province has held commemorative events each year to celebrate the selection of Military Service Distinguished Families, fostering pride by conducting plaque presentation ceremonies and commemorative photo sessions.
This year, a total of 1,215 families were selected as Military Service Distinguished Families in Gyeonggi Province, among which 17 representative families were invited to receive the ‘Military Service Distinguished Family House Plaque’ along with a letter of appreciation from Gyeonggi Province, symbolizing respect and gratitude.
Notably, this year, in addition to existing benefits for medical centers and cultural facilities, new exemptions and discounts on usage fees for recreational and camping facilities operated by Gyeonggi Province were introduced. Furthermore, in cooperation with the Military Manpower Administration and 31 cities and counties, the province plans to further expand the honor and support for Military Service Distinguished Families.
Oh Hu-seok, Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs, stated, “Gyeonggi Province, as the largest border area and the economic center of the Republic of Korea, takes pride in the Military Service Distinguished Families who have guarded the frontline of national security across three generations. They are true heroes of Korea. Gyeonggi Province will provide honors and support befitting their dignity and will do its utmost to create a society where those who have faithfully fulfilled their military service are respected.”
