Kim Dong-yeon Meets Former President Moon: "Urgent Need for Over 30 Trillion Won 'Super Supplementary Budget'"

Governor Kim Visits Pyeongsan Village on the 20th
"Overcoming Impeachment Crisis Experience and Saving the Region"

Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited Pyeongsan Village in Yangsan, Gyeongnam on the 20th to meet with former President Moon Jae-in and discuss ways to overcome the crisis caused by the impeachment political situation.

According to Gyeonggi Province, Governor Kim met with former President Moon that day and had lunch together. He recalled, "President Moon immediately prepared a supplementary budget after taking office," and emphasized, "Now, an urgent 'super supplementary budget' of more than 30 trillion won must be prepared to support future growth engines, small business owners, youth employment, and the recovery of people’s livelihoods."

The day before, Governor Kim held an 'Emergency Briefing for Economic Reconstruction in the Impeachment Political Situation' at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office, urging the preparation of a 30 trillion won 'super supplementary budget' and a 'big cut' (0.5 percentage point interest rate cut) in the base interest rate.

In response, former President Moon reportedly said, "The current government has been too constrained by tax cuts for the wealthy and fiscal soundness, operating fiscal policy too defensively and conservatively," and added, "Since you are an expert in economics, please continue to send messages."

The conversation between Governor Kim and former President Moon lasted about two hours, including informal talks and lunch.

The province explained that this visit was made at Governor Kim’s request to seek experience and wisdom in overcoming the crisis, as he was the economic deputy prime minister during the Moon administration, amid the chaotic impeachment political situation.

Some analysts interpret this as Governor Kim, who reorganized his political team with former pro-Moon (pro-Moon Jae-in) figures in the second half of the 8th popularly elected term, starting his presidential bid as a rival to Lee Jae-myung.

Previously, Governor Kim visited Pyeongsan Village three times, including once in June 2022 as the governor-elect and twice after taking office until March this year, exchanging opinions with former President Moon on political issues.
