Labor Authorities Launch Investigation
The labor authorities are investigating whether the management side has established a safety and health management system following a worker fatality accident that recently occurred at Hyundai Steel's Dangjin plant.
The Cheonan branch of the Daejeon Regional Labor Office announced on the 20th that it has been investigating the management's alleged violation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act by conducting on-site inspections of the accident site three times since the fatal accident occurred on the 12th.
The Chungcheong Regional Center for Major Industrial Accident Prevention (Jungbang Center) is also investigating whether there was a violation of the Industrial Safety and Health Act related to the gas leak accident.
Earlier, a worker in his 50s who was inspecting the by-product gas piping machinery at the steelmaking plant of Hyundai Steel's Dangjin plant died from asphyxiation caused by the gas leak.
Meanwhile, the Cheonan branch's Serious Accident Wide-area Investigation Team, the Jungbang Center, the management side, the labor union, and the bereaved families plan to conduct the first joint on-site investigation requested by the labor union on the 23rd.
