Nowon-gu Awarded Minister of the Interior and Safety Commendation as an Outstanding Local Government in Address Information Management

Among Seoul's 25 Districts, Outstanding Achievements and Road Name Address Innovation Policies Improve Residents' Quality of Life

Nowon-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced on December 20 that it was selected as an ‘Excellent’ local government in the 2024 Road Name Address Information Work and received a commendation from the Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

This commendation was established to recognize local governments that contributed to the development of address information work despite difficult working conditions, and to encourage their policy achievements.

At the awards ceremony, local governments that achieved outstanding results in 11 areas including promotion, education, and maintenance and management of address information facilities were selected.

Nowon-gu was recognized for its contribution to providing convenience in the use of road name addresses and promoting their activation through innovative approaches based on the vision of “a safe country by address, a convenient country by address, and a country where addresses are resources.”

Specific achievements include ▲ installing solar-powered LED building number plates in areas densely populated with harmful businesses to enhance local safety, ▲ incorporating address information education into the elementary school curriculum to develop future generations’ address utilization skills, and ▲ assigning road names to complex internal building passages to greatly improve residents’ convenience.

In addition, Nowon-gu contributed to regional development by cooperating with private organizations to install various facilities and encourage community participation.

Through this award, Nowon-gu will receive a special grant of 40 million won and plans to implement various policies to improve residents’ quality of life and regional development as a leading local government in road name address work.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, stated, “This commendation is the result of continuous efforts for the safety and convenience of residents,” and added, “We will continue to strengthen road name address policies with the goal of ‘Safe Nowon by Address, Convenient Nowon by Address, and Nowon where Addresses are Resources.”
