Police Chief Jo Ji-ho and Seoul Police Chief Kim Bong-sik, who are suspected of being deeply involved in the 'December 3 Emergency Martial Law Incident,' have been sent to the prosecution in custody.
The Special Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency announced on the 20th that Chiefs Jo and Kim were sent to the prosecution in custody on charges of rebellion.
On the evening of the 3rd, around 7 p.m., just before the announcement of martial law, Chiefs Jo and Kim met President Yoon Seok-yeol at the presidential residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, where they received an A4 document listing the agencies to be controlled.
They are accused of ordering a complete blockade of the National Assembly after the declaration of martial law, preventing lawmakers from entering the National Assembly to vote on lifting the martial law. Chief Jo is also accused of ordering personnel assignments at the Central Election Commission.
The Special Investigation Unit stated, "Regarding the other police officers dispatched to the National Assembly and the Election Commission on the day of martial law, we currently judge that there is insufficient basis to formally charge them in principle," and added, "We will comprehensively review and decide on whether to file charges based on each individual's actions."
