A man in his 30s who obtained psychotropic drugs by using another person's ID purchased on social networking services (SNS) and fraudulently received insurance benefits was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
According to the legal community on the 21st, Judge Seo Dong-won of the Criminal Division 6 at the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced A (31) to 2 years in prison with a 4-year suspension for charges including fraud and violation of the National Health Insurance Act.
A is accused of using another person's ID to receive medical treatment at hospitals located in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, and Hanam-si, and obtaining prescriptions for psychotropic drugs a total of 114 times.
Both hospitals, unaware that the IDs had been stolen, claimed health insurance benefits from the National Health Insurance Service. It was confirmed that A fraudulently received approximately 3.3 million won in insurance benefits.
The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "The number of offenses committed in each incident is large," but also noted, "The defendant admitted to the crimes and appears to be in poor health."
