6th Special Inspection of Vehicles Ahead of Seasonal Fine Dust Management Program
Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 20th that during the 6th Seasonal Management Period (December 2024 to March 2025), special inspections on vehicle emissions and engine idling will be conducted focusing on areas with high vehicle density and spaces frequented by sensitive groups to prepare for high concentrations of fine dust.
Paju City plans to carry out on-site inspections using smoke meters targeting old diesel vehicles with high fine dust emissions in designated vehicle-dense areas and engine idling restricted zones such as downtown and parking lots, as well as non-face-to-face inspections by recording and reviewing footage of moving vehicles.
Based on the inspection results, vehicles emitting excessive smoke will be advised to take corrective measures, and vehicles exceeding emission standards will be ordered to improve.
Owners of vehicles receiving improvement orders must have their vehicles serviced and inspected by professional maintenance providers and submit the inspection results. Failure to comply will result in a suspension of operation for up to 10 days.
Additionally, vehicles idling for more than 5 minutes in designated engine idling restricted areas will receive a first warning and a second fine of 50,000 KRW.
Jo Yoon-ok, Director of the Environmental Guidance Division, said, “We ask for active cooperation from citizens to protect public health and improve air quality, and also encourage interest in eco-friendly driving and vehicle management.”
