Paju-si Selected as an Excellent Institution in the '2024 Agricultural Policy Evaluation'

Paju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Kim Kyung-il) announced on the 20th that it was selected as an excellent institution in the ‘2024 Agricultural Policy Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the 17th.

The Agricultural Policy Evaluation has been awarded since 1996 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to local governments nationwide, evaluating rice industry policies, which are the core of agriculture. The evaluation is conducted by comprehensively analyzing various indicators such as securing stable rice production volume, establishing a foundation for high-quality rice production, and efforts to reduce production costs.

This year’s evaluation focused on efforts for appropriate rice production and the conversion to cultivating other crops on rice paddies.

So far, Paju City has actively implemented the ‘Strategic Crop Direct Payment System,’ which encourages the cultivation of other crops such as beans and forage crops on rice paddies. In particular, not only rice beans but also corn were included as targets for strategic crop direct payments, and the area of farmland eligible for summer forage crops was expanded to induce farmers to cultivate crops other than rice.

As a result, the newly applied area for strategic crop direct payments this year recorded 121.2 hectares, achieving 140% of the target area of 86.8 hectares.

Mayor Kim Kyung-il of Paju City said, “This award is the fruit of efforts to stabilize rice supply and diversify farmers’ income,” and added, “We will continue to discover field-customized policies together with farmers and do our best to increase farmers’ income.”
