The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Youngju, hereinafter referred to as MSS) held the 'SMEs and Startups Globalization Strategy Meeting' to review the implementation status of global support for SMEs and startups.
According to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Office of MSS and others on the 20th, the strategy meeting, held at the Design Lab of Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul, was conducted both online and offline to allow participation from domestic and international organizations in order to review the progress of various policies promoted since the announcement of the global support measures in May this year.
On-site participants included organizations and associations related to SMEs and startups, the Korea Employers Federation, public institutions under MSS, the four major banks (Shinhan, KB Kookmin, Hana, Woori), Kim & Chang Law Office, Gwangjang Law Firm, Samil PwC, and other members of the SMEs and Startups Globalization One Team Council (hereinafter referred to as the Domestic One Team Council).
Through online participation, about 30 people joined from overseas, including Ambassador Hong Jinwook in Singapore representing the Overseas Diplomatic Missions' SMEs and Startups Support One Team Council (hereinafter referred to as the Overseas One Team Council), MSS's overseas dispatched officials, and heads of overseas bases, who serve as secretariat institutions for the Overseas One Team Council.
This meeting proceeded with a presentation by Minister Oh Youngju of MSS on the implementation status and future direction of the SMEs and Startups globalization policy, followed by a free discussion among participants.
The participants evaluated that the proactive globalization policy of MSS has established a systematic environment for SMEs to export and expand overseas.
In addition, private organizations and associations expressed concerns about the unstable domestic and international environment and emphasized the need for more detailed and active government support to enable SMEs to respond in a timely manner.
Minister Oh Youngju of MSS stated, "This year marked the first year of establishing a systematic infrastructure to support the globalization of our SMEs and startups through public-private cooperation," and added, "We will steadfastly pursue support policies for the globalization of our SMEs and startups, which are the drivers of their growth, despite the rapidly changing domestic and international environment."
She further added, "To respond quickly to the difficult situation caused by the recent high exchange rates, we will announce next year's SME support projects, including export support projects worth about 620 billion KRW, early so that funds can be supplied to companies promptly."
