On the 20th, the 27th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Woo In-seong) sentenced Choi, who was charged with murder, to 26 years in prison. Previously, the prosecution had demanded the death penalty for Choi.

Choi was arrested and indicted on charges of stabbing and killing his girlfriend, Ms. A, on the rooftop of a building near Gangnam Station on May 6. It was investigated that in April, Choi had registered his marriage with Ms. A, who was his romantic partner, without informing her parents, and after learning this late, Ms. A’s parents pursued an annulment lawsuit. In particular, it was found that Choi planned to kill Ms. A and had prepared the weapon in advance.

Choi’s defense attorney claimed that Choi was suffering from anxiety disorder and other conditions. However, the mental evaluation results showed that Choi was not in a state of mental or physical disability at the time of the crime.
