Robotics and defense industries have been newly designated as national advanced strategic technologies. Next year, 25.5 trillion KRW in policy financing will be provided to four major advanced strategic industries: semiconductors, secondary batteries, displays, and bio.
On the 20th, the government held the 7th National Advanced Strategic Industry Committee at the Government Seoul Office, chaired by Acting President and Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, to discuss this agenda.
On this day, the government newly designated one technology each in robotics and defense as national advanced strategic industry technologies. Humanoid robot technology capable of moving at speeds exceeding 3.3 meters per second and transporting objects weighing over 20 kg through full-body manipulation, and advanced aviation engine technology for manned and unmanned aircraft with thrust of 15,000 lbf or more were newly included as national advanced strategic technologies.
The government plans to supply 25.5 trillion KRW to the advanced strategic industry sector, a 39% increase compared to this year's plan. In particular, from next year, with the confirmation of a 250 billion KRW fiscal investment in the semiconductor program, low-interest loans will be provided at a minimum 2% range of government bond rates. This year, policy financial institutions (KDB Industrial Bank, IBK Industrial Bank, Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, Korea Technology Finance Corporation) supplied 20.2 trillion KRW by November, exceeding the original supply plan of 18.4 trillion KRW.
The government decided to support infrastructure, technology development and commercialization, linked cooperation, and institutional improvements to ensure smooth implementation of 37.5 trillion KRW in private investment in the five bio national advanced strategic industry specialized complexes designated in June. The government has been supporting 166.1 billion KRW in national funds over three years from 2023 to 2025 to build infrastructure for the specialized complexes. Public institutions are also establishing infrastructure for the specialized complexes through projects exempt from preliminary feasibility studies worth over 10 trillion KRW.
