Singer and actress IU mentioned a condition she has suffered from since childhood, saying that when she gets bitten by mosquitoes, the bites ooze and hurt.
On the 19th, IU appeared on actress Yoon In-na's YouTube channel 'Yoon Radio' and participated in a balance game suggested by viewers. When Yoon In-na presented the choices of "not getting bitten but hearing mosquito sounds all night while sleeping" and "not hearing any sounds but waking up with many bites," IU replied, "Both are very frustrating. Still, wouldn't it be better not to get bitten?" She continued, "As Yoon In-na knows, (getting bitten by mosquitoes) causes illness," and revealed, "When I get bitten by mosquitoes, lumps like those of the hunchbacked old man appear. Because of that, I have to take antibiotics as the bites ooze and hurt."
When IU explained, "It's a kind of mosquito allergy," Yoon In-na expressed surprise, asking, "Does a mosquito allergy really exist in this world?" In response, IU said, "Search it right now," and together they searched for Skeeter syndrome on a portal site. She added, "The affected area becomes widely red, severely swollen like edema, and blisters form. The parts where I was badly bitten as a child still have some dead skin, so it doesn't even hurt when pricked with a needle. That's why I dislike mosquitoes much more than cockroaches," she confessed.
Skeeter syndrome is an allergy that causes an excessive physical reaction when bitten by mosquitoes, resulting in much more severe swelling or burning sensations on the skin compared to others. It often appears easily in children with weaker immune systems. Even if the bitten area itches, it is best not to scratch and to apply cold compresses. If swelling and blisters are left untreated, there is a risk of secondary infection, so caution is necessary. If dizziness or shortness of breath occurs, it can lead to anaphylactic shock, so a hospital visit should be made promptly.
Meanwhile, IU recently announced a prepayment for participants of the rally calling for President Yoon Suk-yeol's resignation. Her agency, EDAM Entertainment, announced on the 13th, "We prepared a total of 700 food items hoping that the hands of U-Aena (the fandom name), who are holding IU light sticks and attending the rally in the cold weather, will be a little warmer as they brightly light up the surroundings." It is known that all these foods were quickly consumed on the day of the rally. Currently, IU is preparing for the release of the Netflix series 'Poksak Soksassuda' and has confirmed her appearance in the MBC drama tentatively titled '21st Century Daegun Buin.'
